H. Selen Akçalı Uzunhasan, Ph.D.

selen akçalıBorn in 1981 in Istanbul- Turkey. She graduated from the Saint-Michel French High School. She completed her BA degree at Marmara University, Department of Political Science and Public Administration. She fulfilled the International Exchange Programme of European Studies in Sciences-Po Paris. She received her master's degree from the Political Science and International Relations Department of Bogazici University. She received her PHD degree in history at Bogazici University. Her PHD thesis is on the propaganda activities of Turkey during the Single- Party Regime (1931- 1946) from a comparative approach. She took part in research studies on EU communication strategies, European lobbying, the role of European think tanks and new type of European Civil Society Organizations. She is a member of Bogazici University Alumni Association and KA-DER (Supporting and Training Woman Candidates Association). She speaks native Turkish, fluent French and English, and beginner's Spanish.

Currently, she is teaching History of the Turkish Republic to undergraduates at Boğaziçi University and Işık University in Istanbul.

Areas of Expertise

She has expertise in EU’s 5th, 6th, 7th Framework Programmes, EUREKA Programme, other European Community Programmes and DG’s Grants. She assisted the cooperative networks settlement training in the framework of FP6 VERITAS project and contributed to the creation of 2 cooperative networks in Turkey. She worked as Networking Session Coordinator in the European ICT Conference organized in the framework of FP6 EASIER project. She rendered one-to-one consulting services to nearly 300 Turkish ICT SMEs within the project aiming to increase their participation in FP projects. She also got involved in the final financial reporting of the project. She has also worked closely to Turkish Renewable Energy SMEs in the framework of FP6 FIRE project which supports the participation of RES SMEs in the EU R&D projects. Likewise, she has worked with the team of Bridges of Knowledge project to support the managerial parts of the project. She has been the coordinator of the 40 Stations Photography project, photographing of 40 Turkish artists and academics living in Paris, New York and London, since 2001. She was the local coordinator of SEAS X Turkey project. She coordinated and organized exhibitions and contemporary art performances in Turkey, France, Germany, United Kingdom and in the United States in collaboration with international organizations like British Council, Art Councils of England, Intercult and Cultures France. While heading especially towards culture, art and social responsibility projects since 2008, Akçalı is one of the founding partners of SOM.
