Kıvanç Ergu

Kivanç Ergu was born in Izmir in 1979. After graduating from Izmir Tevfik Fikret High-School in 1997, he started his studies in international relations at Galatasaray University in Istanbul. In 2001, he received a scholarship from the Robert Schuman Foundation to pursue his studies at Sciences-Po Paris, which he completed in september 2003, with a major in European Studies. His professional carrier was mainly focused on providing consulting services on EU policies and legislation. In 2006, following the launch of EU-Turkey accession negotiations, he joined Eurohozirons, an EU consulting company created by Sebnem Karacuçak, the former Secretary General of IKV (Economic Development Foundation). Between 2006 and 2012, he provided consulting services to various civil society and business representative organisations in Turkey, while publishing articles and reviews for Kriter, a monthly magazine on EU and EU-Turkey relations. In the meantime, he completed a master programme on EU studies at Bogazici University. After 2012, he worked as Grant Programme Specialist at Sabanci Foundation in Istanbul, and as Economic Attaché at Luxembourg Embassy in Ankara. In February 2017, he moved to France, where he currently works on a PhD project dealing with the gradual discrediting of Turkey’s EU accession process, at the University of Strasbourg, while providing consulting services in project preparation and management on a freelance basis.
