Bedirhan Dehmen

Born in 1978, Istanbul. Until 2007 he was a member of an arts collective, Boğaziçi Performing Arts Ensemble. Then on, danced and choreographed independently, at times in collaboration with artists from Istanbul contemporary performing arts scene. Some of the pieces he has danced, choreographed and/or directed are: Güneşli Pazartesi - Monday in the Sun (2008, co-choreography Şafak Uysal), Human Writes (2008, The Forsythe Company), Tevhid/Birlik/Oneness (2010), Off Course (2010, Meg Stuart & Damaged Goods), “biz” – “we” (2014), Ezel Bahar - The Eternal Spring (2015, for Modern Dance Theatre Istanbul of State Opera & Ballet), Bedr: Fullmoon (2015), Mecnun ve Leyla (2017), Balerin (2018), Maraton (2018), Bahr (2021, dance & music video) and Aridu (2021). Pieces he has conceived, choreographed or directed have been staged at venues, such as The Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, garajistanbul, Sureyya Opera House, Moda Sahnesi, Maxim Gorki Theater (Berlin), Suzanne Della Center for Dance and Theatre (Tel-Aviv), Megaron (Athens), Pavillon Noir (Aix en Provence), Teatri di Vita (Bologna), Les Halles de Schaerbeek (Brussels), among many others.

Dehmen holds bachelors and masters degrees in Sociology from Boğaziçi University and a phd degree in Dramaturgy from Istanbul University. Besides his artistic work as dancer/choreographer/director, he works as faculty (assoc. prof.) at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Contemporary Dance Dept., and also teaches at Koç University as guest lecturer. In 2021 he founded Biz Platform, a platform for co-production and co-labour.
